Asian design vs North American Design

Glorietta 4 Makati, Starbucks Menu
Haven’t had a chance to update my blog recently because of my new job as a graphic designer at T&T supermarket. Yes! I’ve finally found a design job!! ( I feel extremely blessed that I was able to find something this quick.)

T&T is Canada’s biggest Chinese Chain supermarket, currently owned by lablaw (superstore). They have more than 20 locations accross Canada. I currently work in their corporate office in Richmond.

Work has been challenging at times and I thought I’d share some of my learning process here. So one of the first things that I noticed that I had to learn was asian style design. Having studied design at Emily Carr university, I’ve developed a North American style. NW style I’ve noticed now is a lot cleaner and as I am working at T&T, designing their print ads, I realized that my style doesn’t fit in as well. Asian style design I found to be a lot busier. They also uses a lot more decorative elements compared to NW design. (ex. cartoon splashes, small cartoon figures and a lot of stickers.) So I’m currently developing my own NW & Asian fusion style. Lets hope I can learn it quick!
