Grad Project: behind the scene CD album

Just like the ring packaging, I really need to thank many people for the turn out of this design. In the beginning, I was actually kind of struggling with the criteria.Originally I wanted to use pop up mechanisms for it as well. At the time, I had seen many pop up CD packagings, and it was especially intriguing. I wanted to do the same, so came up with the following.



If you look closely, this is actually the same mechanism for the ring packaging. Yes, i initially used it for the CD packaging first then transferred it onto the ring.

So the reason for changing the design is because I didn't want to repeat the same mechanism again. I started exploring other options and possibilities. Eventually decided to go with the poster idea. Now, a poster of course isn't something new, so I knew I needed to bring a new dimension to it. Eventually after a meeting with one of my teachers, we came up with the idea of this structural changing packaging.



The packaging is made possible by laminating 2 piece of paper together. So, as one opens the packaging, one gently rips away the paper and causes the perforated pattern to be revealed.
